Workshop Introduction to High Temperature Ceramic Glazes

The introductory workshop on ceramic glazes aims to provide a basic introduction to high-temperature ceramic glazes, including the structure of a glaze and the differentiation of its constituent elements.

The workshop methodology is both lecture-based and practical. We will prepare two glaze base recipes: one glossy and one milky. We will also incorporate opacifiers and coloring oxides, such as copper, iron, chromium, and manganese, into these bases.

We'll analyze the tests performed, including effects and/or defects, and review concepts such as coefficients of expansion, tension, compression, and elasticity. Finally, we'll explore the methodology for modifying commercial enamels and conduct new tests to get closer to what each person is looking for.

Duration: 6 teaching hours, 2 sessions of 3 hours each, spaced one week apart.

Includes: all materials, information, supplies to make the recipes, the tiles where the tests are applied, as well as the necessary scales, in addition to the burns for both test sessions.

Dates:

Monday, June 23rd and Friday, June 27th, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Peace of Roads workshop, located at Francisco Bulnes Correa 899, Las Condes.
